This morning, on KSYL radio's Talk Back Pre-Show, a discussion was had about the Fulton.
The show's co-host, Fred Rosenfeld, systematically shot down the callers in who advocated a federal and state criminal investigation, sitting down at the table to get us out of this mess and a voters referendum.
Although Fred admitted that the City is spending our tax dollars on the Fulton Hotel foolishly, he had no solutions to the problem other than his constant complaints. The last caller said that the City couldn't sell the hotel anyway because it is currently tied up in bankruptcy court. Well that is simply untrue. The City owns the Fulton and Capital One simply has a mortgage over the tower. The City of Alexandria could in fact divest itself of the hotel through a lease purchase agreement and possibly a TIF. ("ONCE AGAIN THE TOWN TALK SAYS TO CLOSE THE FULTON HOTEL"). These solutions could save the City millions of dollars.
The crime of malfeasance in office (LSA-R.S. 14:134) or the civil misfeasance or nonfeasance (Roger v. Dufrene, 613 So.2d 947 (La., 1993)) could possible cover Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy and the City Council's actions with regards to the Fulton Hotel. The Louisiana Attorney General's White Collar Crimes Section is charged with the investigation of public corruption. ("Divisions").
Also, public corruption is the number one criminal priority of the F.B.I. ("Public Corruption").

Public corruption the main task of the FBI? Really.
ReplyDeleteGreg, The FBI's primary purose is not public corruption investigations according to the FBI website. [What are the primary investigative functions of the FBI?
ReplyDelete[The FBI’s investigative authority is the broadest of all federal law enforcement agencies. The FBI has divided its investigations into a number of programs, such as domestic and international terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, cyber, public corruption, civil rights, organized crime/drugs, white-collar crime, violent crimes and major offenders, and applicant matters.]
Yes it is. If you will click on the FBI link you will see that is what the FBI says.
ReplyDeleteO.K. --You put $1,000,000 into a property that you really don't own -- do you have a MBA from Harvard to realize that this is not wise?
ReplyDeleteThe City owns it. Capital One has a mortgage on the tower.
DeleteO.K. Greg--Mybad-- delete "don't own" and insert in lieu thereof "don't have clear title to"
