Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy proposed sites of memorials for the Holocaust, World War II, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and a civil rights "allegory" park gave tour recently to members of the Alexandria Human Relations Commission and other interested citizens to share his thoughts on the several memorials. (See: "Alexandria considering options for memorials for MLK, WWII, Holocaust, civil rights").
Roy said that he hopes he can convince the City Council to place $75,000 to $100,000 into the 2012-13 budget to begin scoping the memorials. id.
"I think it's a wonderful idea," said Liz Brazelton, the vice chair of the Alexandria Human Relations Commission and also said that "I don't know why we didn't think of this before". id.
I have no doubt that Jacques can get the money out of the City Council as he controls it anyway.
Why we haven't built these memorials before can be answered by Jacques being too busy spending our tax dollars on his SPARC (CRAPS) projects and his downtown hotels global deal.
