COUNCILMAN JONES SHOWS HIS INSANITY

See this video from February 21, 2012 of the ignorant rantings of Alexandria City Councilman Jerry Jones about his ethical complaint and his attempt to make a political speech for his run this Fall against Von Jennings.



You can see for yourself how Jerry's exhibition was contrived by the administration of Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy evidenced by its being led by Alexandria City Attorney Chuck Johnson.

As you will recall. Mayor Roy broke the tie vote by the City Council on December 13, 2011 which put Jones on the Council replacing former City Councilman Jonathan Goins instead of Von Jennings who was clearly more qualified for the seat than Jones and appeared to have the support of the Black voters of that district.

Jones tried to have us believe that he brought this issue of his ethics complaint before the City Council because his stated opponent in the Fall's election, Von Jennings, was actually behind that complaint and that she was going to keep it from the public until the election.

As the attorney who drew up the complaint against Jones, I can assure you that Von Jennings had absolutely nothing to do with it. I drew and the complaint for the complainants who were Jules Green and Gayle Underwood. Also, there was no conspiracy to keep the complaint a secret from the public, we were prohibited by law from revealing it. The Louisiana Ethics Law provides that "it is a misdemeanor to reveal any information about an Ethics Board investigation". (See: "Louisiana Board of Ethics Procedures").

The complaint is also not based upon race, as Mr. Jones argues, but upon an alleged violation of state law. It is not against the law to be Black, but it is against the law to be unethical. That this complaint has nothing to do with race, as is best seen by one of the complainants, Mr. Jules Green, being Black himself.

This complaint has nothing to do with the December 2011 resolution, as Chuck Johnson would have you believe, rather it is based upon Jones voting for his own resolution.

The complaint was also made against City Council President Harry Silver. Just like Councilman Chuck Fowler and Cleco and ex-Councilman Myron Lawson and Bridgett Brown did before him and were found to have been unethical, this complaint alleges that Silver voted for Jones on December 13th and again on the Jones resolution when he may have had a business relationship with Jones.

You will also see on this video how Silver allowed this to be placed on the third revised agenda the Monday morning before the Council meeting. Note how Councilwoman Mitzi Gibson noted that nothing could be added to the agenda after Wednesday. You will also see how Councilman Chuck Fowler cut off Mrs. Gibson, and how he let Jones say his rant with no time limit like the other speakers.

The Alexandria City Council appears to have once again to have violated the state's Open Meetings law in that it failed to give Jules Green, Gayle Underwood and myself notice that we were to be discussed and an opportunity to be heard. (See: "Open Meeting Laws").

KSYL ON JONES' ETHICS COMPLAINT (13:00)

It should be pointed out that the show's co-host, Fred Rosenfeld. is a friend of Harry Silver's. 

This ethics complaint is not as trivial and lacking of importance as Fred and some callers stated. As former U.S. Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill said All politics is local" ("All politics is local"), and the state of Louisiana and many of its citizens feel that ethics laws are very important. I wonder who appointed Fred to determine what laws must be followed and which ones can be violated?

Also, I don't believe that the ethics complaint nor the two Town Talk articles on it made any mention   of a discount provided by Silver to Jones. The only mention of a discount came from Chuck Johnson at last Tuesday's meeting and from Fred on the radio.

This complaint also has absolutely nothing to do with the downtown hotels, as one of the callers suggested. Some of the callers into the radio show remind me of what Myron Lawson said that his grandfather used to say: "There ain't no cure for the dumb ass".
