BRET'S CITY NOTEBOOK FOR FEBRUARY 19, 2012

In this installment of Town Talk reporter Bret McCormick's City Notebook, Bret issued a correction of a previous story he reported. (See: "City Notebook: Contract on Alexandria Museum on council's agenda").

"Last week, I incorrectly reported that a change in electronic billing and printing of the city of Alexandria's utilities bills could save the city between $1.7 million and $2.7 million a year." id.

But the city's utilities director, Mike Marcotte, sent Bret an email stating that "Your quote of 5 to 8 cents savings is correct, however, "in no way does that equate to savings in excess of $1 or $2 million per year". id. "The savings the city will receive from its contract with Level One LLC will be 1.7 million to 2.7 million CENTS per year." id. "The estimated 5- to 8-cent savings per bill, multiplied by 28,000 commercial and residential bills per month, will equal an approximate savings of between $16,800 and $26,880." id.

"The Alexandria City Council is expected to discuss the extension of an interagency agreement between the city and the Louisiana State University at Alexandria board of supervisors in relation to the Alexandria Museum of Art." id.

A long time audit violation, the Alexandria Museum of Art which was provided utilities and parking by the City but the Art Museum did not give equal value in return. (See: "THE ALEXANDRIA AUDIT REPORT: RECOMMENDATIONS AND VIOLATIONS OF LAW").
