This was despite that group having done the same voter registration at Convention Hall for the King holiday all of the years in the past for no fee.
The Rev. Larry (Love) Turner was the moderator of the Convention Hall ceremonies and told the ladies that the word to charge them came directly from Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy. This is despite state law and City ordinances providing that they City doesn't have to charge anything to tax exempt non-profit groups, assuming that the sorority is tax exempt, and it has been allowed no have its booth there throughout Mayor Roy's administration during previous years.

KSYL ON THE CONTROVERSY (2:35)
What has changed this year? Could it be that Jacques doesn't want any more Black voters because so many of them oppose him?

I would imagine, that considering the last election, that Jacques is not much in favor of expanding the black voter rolls in A-town.(LOL) But, that said, I am suspect when non-governmental agencies are allowed to take voter registration forms. I remember a few years back - I think in Shreveport, but maybe Monroe, a black asst.D.A. went a high school to register students who would be 18 on election day. The black students registrations were turned in, but due to "some error" the white students registrations never made it.Of course, nothing was done about it..so sorry. I think that registrar of voter personnel should be present at these events if out of office registrations are solicited. If not, this is an open invitation to vote fraud.
