SUNDROP FUELS AND THE STATE

"Sundrop Fuels, a Colorado-based renewable fuels company, will build its $450 million plant north of Alexandria" and "Louisiana taxpayers will fund $4.5 million to help with the costs of moving Sundrop's research and development department to Alexandria, and give performance-based grants totaling $14 million over 10 years based on employment figures, Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret said". (See: "State assisting Sundrop with plant project").

You do realize, however, that the vast majority of businesses in this state open and remain open on their own money, a lender's money or a combination of the two. They receive no money from the state. This is the old fashioned American way without the involvement of government supported corporate welfare.

I certainly hope that Sundrop will actually build its plant, stay in business and hire the estimated number of employees it promised unlike the StarTek scam that the City of Alexandria was hoodwinked into swallowing.

  1. Before making a cynical comment I would like to learn more about the process to make biomass fuel. From reading the TT it seems that wood waste is mixed with natural gas and "cooked" using natural gas. If so, this sounds like another government(ie:taxpayer)scheme that uses more energy in the process than it makes.
