THE PROSPECTIVE CALL CENTER IS?

The Central Louisiana Economic Development Alliance (CLEDA), the Louisiana Workforce Development (WFD) and the Louisiana Economic Development (LED) put on a job fair yesterday along with Sutherland Global Services Inc., who the Town Talk has identified as the top secret company that is looking on coming to Alexandria. (See: "Company eyeing Alexandria could create up to 600 jobs").

"Sutherland Global Services Inc., which is headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., and operates 33 call centers in 10 countries", is looking for up to 600 workers. id. "We're hoping good things will come out of it," CLEDA Vice President Rick Ranson said of the job fair." id.

The three positions for which applicants are being sought by Sutherland. are: (1). customer-service consultants; (2). help desk support technicians to provide technical support to callers; and (3). mortgage underwriters to examine credit and produce mortgage commitments. id.

"Sutherland operates call centers in Rochester, New York City, Syracuse, N.Y.; Virginia Beach, Va.; Reston, Va.; Houston and Tulsa, Okla., in the U.S., as well as in Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, England, Egypt, India, Mexico, the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates." id. "The company's presentation stated that some of its notable clients include Aflac, Amazon.com, AT&T, Dell, eBay, Facebook, Home Depot, Microsoft, Staples, Verizon and Visa." id.

Ranson said CLEDA officials have vetted the company, and it's a company that is attractive to Central Louisiana, and said that  the "good-paying" jobs ranging between $10 and $15 per hour would be a nice addition to the local economy. id.

Ranson wouldn't confirm that the company was looking to locate its call center in the Jakes Building, which formally housed StarTek, "during his presentation, the company official told the applicants that the company was close to finalizing an agreement to come to Alexandria and expected to do so within the next 15 to 20 days". id. This could possibly be the call center that Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy announced at the last City Council meeting. ("SPECIAL CITY ALEXANDRIA COUNCIL MEETING ON NEW DISTRICTS AND THE CALL CENTER"). Jacques said at that meeting that he couldn't tell us what company it was and that it is top secret.

I am not a big fan on keeping it a secret from us as to who will be getting our tax dollars. (See: "SECRECY LOST ON THE TIRE PLANT").
