MONROE'S NEW FARMERS' MARKET

Monroe city officials are inviting the public to a ground-breaking of the Downtown RiverMarket , which is a part of city's downtown revitalization efforts. (See: "Monroe to break ground on market").

The project will have a French-style market theme with arched entrances and gazebos, and it will feature kiosks constructed along the river walk near the Ouachita River. id.

"The project was funded with $357,918 from the city and $490,375 from the state, $140,000 from the Monroe-West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau and $19,508 from the Renaissance Committee." id.

Wow, and just think. If Mayor Jamie Mayo of Monroe were as smart as our Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy he too could have come up with a SPARC (CRAPS) plan.

Of course it would have indebted his City for $40 million and produced no new businesses, jobs or economic growth except for the zoo, the porno book store, Councilman Chuck Fowler's print shop and a set of apartments at the old auction barn where none of the residents wanted them.
