COUNCIL PRESIDENT SILVER SPEAKS ON THE SMOKING BAN'S APPLICATION TO NURSING HOMES

This morning on KSYL radio's Talk Back Pre-Show, there was a discussion about the new call center thinking of opening in Alexandria (See: "CALL CENTER JOBS COMING TO ALEXANDRIA" and "LAFAYETTE CALL CENTER WOES SIMILAR TO ALEXANDRIA'S" and the links cited thereunder).

Next, came an announcement concerning the applicability of Alexandria's smoking ordinance to nursing homes, and the state law which seems to trump that ordinance ("ALEXANDRIA CITY COUNCIL AGENDAS FOR 1\24\2012").

What was amazing was the Alexandria City Council President Harry Silver, the second caller, said that the Council knew that its ordinance was flawed when they passed it. Like lemmings jumping over a cliff, the City council was so eager to intrude upon the rights of people that it knowingly passed a flawed law.
