COACH JINDAL

"You might not normally think of it, but being governor and being a head football coach is a lot alike." (See: "Politics, pigskin are a lot alike").

"This time, he was more obvious than any other Louisiana governor in his choice of "assistant coaches" to run the House and Senate in naming Senate President John Alario and Speaker Chuck Kleckley early in what was shaping up to be vigorous campaigns for the positions", but never "mind that the Legislature is supposed to be a totally separate branch of government and stand apart from the governor's office". id. By the way, there is a 39-member state Senate and 105-member House. id.

"And now Jindal's assistant coach and quarterback to run the Department of Education, John White, has been appointed by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education." id.

The "1988 constitutional amendment that changed the superintendent's job from elected to appointed was that the elected and gubernatorial appointed BESE members would pick someone they could work with and move education forward". Newly seated BESE member Lottie Beebe proposed a national search, but no other member supported the idea, so it died without a vote, she then voted with "an emphatic NO!" against appointing White, and she also voted against approving his contract because she had never seen it. id.

Jane Smith, a term-limited state representative from Bossier City who lost a contentious battle for a state Senate seat, has a new job with Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration as deputy secretary of the Louisiana Revenue Department. (See: "Jane Smith lands job with state Revenue Department"). "Smith was endorsed by the governor and the State Republican Party when she ran for State Senate last fall and lost to Barrow Peacock." (See: "Jane Smith appointed Deputy Director of Revenue for State").
