The largely rural 3rd U.S. Congressional District, which is Melancon's, swings along the coast from St. Bernard through St. Mary parishes, including suburbs of Baton Rouge and New Orleans., and it includes Gonzales, Houma, Morgan City and New Iberia.
Melancon, pictured at right, had his career remarked upon by Joshua Stockley, a former Nicholls State University associate political science professor who has watched Melancon’s career, said of Melancon “He leaves the legacy of being a fierce advocate for southeastern Louisiana”, and “When you think of Charlie Melancon, you think of a very passionate representative of southeastern Louisiana”. id.
