RUNNING RED IN ALEXANDRIA

Jay Johnson, a District 3 resident and a board member of the city's Greater Alexandria Economic Development Authority, has released a second video about the city entitled "Running Red in Alexandria".

This video is a followup to "Black in Alexandria").

Running Red in Alexandria is an excellent piece of video which is well done and has some great points. But like "Black in Alexandria" it is a hit piece on Alexandria's Mayor Jacques Roy and is downright wrong on a couple of key points.

First a tremendous amount of Alexandria's budget woes are due to decreasing sales taxes. That would happen to whomever our mayor is.

But Jacques' spending that I have problems with is his expenditures in an attempt to gain Black votes. As you can clearly see from this video, Jacques buying Black votes does not appear to be working.

We have $98 million in SPARC money of which 90% is being used in the Black parts of town. But there is no way that the predominantly low income Blacks will be in a position to repay these bonds. The same goes for the approximately $50 to $60 million in Fast Track money which is not only in the Versailles Drive part of town but is also in, for example, the Sugarhouse Road part of Black Alexandria. Nor does Mr. Johnson talk about the over $70,000 that Councilman Myron Lawson spent upon meals for the City Council.

And lastly, on the issue of the parks, you will notice that Mr. Johnson fails to mention the vandalism that has finally closed the park at Harmon Park or the "slab riding" at Frank O. Hunter Park.
