But our two esteemed Republican candidates are throwing charges of ethical violations at each other. Burns is charging that Scalise should needs to return contributions made to his Congressional campaign from Malcolm Petal and William French, both figures who are under scrutiny in connection with the Film Tax Credit scandal. (See the Dead Pelican's "Burns Accuses Scalise of "Unethical Misconduct"). "Mr. Scalise was principal author of the Film Tax Credit which has been marred by scandals and poor regulatory oversight. The program gave tax money to privileged and politically connected companies with virtually no regulations and with little overall economic impact. The fact that the Scalise campaign has taken money from two of the individuals under scrutiny for their alleged roles in the scandals not only constitutes an appearance of impropriety, but is hypocritical as well." id.
Additionally, Burns claims that "As was reported in the Times-Picayune, Steve Scalise lobbied for his father's graphics firm, Go-Go Graphics, in front of the Jefferson Parish Council on his official state representative stationary. His father's company was awarded the contract which was the worst bid of the three companies that submitted bids." id.
Scalise, on the other hand, fired back by accusing Burns of the improper use of his Legislative e-mails to promote his book. (See the Dead Pelican's "Former Lobbyist Burns Attempts to Cover his Abuse: More Illegal Emails Uncovered"). In addition to that allegation, Scalise accuses Burns of the unethical and illegal use of his taxpayer paid legislative assistant in his campaign. Watch this video which seems to prove these allegations:
There are good and bad Republicans and Democrats. Just because one is a Republican does not entitle a bad Republican to a free pass to commit unethical or illegal acts. Although I am a Republican, I do not think it would be wise to elect either of these men to Congress.
